The Grindstone Island Nature Trail connects the two ends of Canoe Picnic Point State Park on the foot of Grindstone Island in Clayton. The trail meanders from Canoe Point along the shoreline to Picnic Point where the Sissy Danforth Gazebo is a great place to stop for a picnic. The land between the parks is a preserve owned by TILT.

The trail can be accessed from either of the parks and from the interior island roads. When you visit the parks and walk the trail, please be mindful of private property adjacent to the parks and preserve. Grindstone Island itself is only accessible by boat.
We recommend that you wear long pants when you walk the trail. Waterproof footwear is a good idea in the spring or after a rainfall.
The trail is a cooperative project between the land trust and NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
