Potter's Beach Cleanup Scheduled

The Thousand Islands Land Trust (TILT) is organizing a Spring Cleanup of Potter’s Beach on Grindstone Island with the help of Rivergate Wheelers ATV Club and the Thousand Islands Young Leaders Organization (TIYLO). The Cleanup will take place Saturday, May 16; transportation to the island will leave from the TILT office at 9:45 a.m.

Potter’s Beach is a popular summer destination for boaters and visitors. It lies at the head of Grindstone and is the only naturally occurring sandy beach among the islands. On a Saturday afternoon in the middle of summer, you’ll see boats anchored in the harbor and people swimming, sunning and thoroughly enjoying the season. TILT purchased Potter’s Beach in 1989 in order to ensure that it remain as it always has been – a beautiful public beach.

Rivergate Wheelers and TIYLO volunteer to do numerous things in the community, and this Potter’s Beach Cleanup is only the latest. Rivergate Wheelers also help TILT maintain part of the Sissy Danforth Rivergate Trail, and TIYLO is a partner with TILT in the new Community Garden at Zenda Farm.

Participants will pick up any trash and debris along the beach, as well as in the adjacent woods. They will also be prepared to clean up any winter storm damage that may have occurred. Rivergate Wheelers and TILT will provide hamburgers & hotdogs for participants. The Spring Cleanup of Potter’s Beach will take place Saturday, May 16, with transportation leaving the TILT office in Clayton at 9:45 a.m. For more information, contact TILT at 315-686-5345.
