A Quest at TILT’s Zenda Farm Preserve is this year’s first KidsTrek, scheduled for Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at 1 PM. Children young and old are invited to come to Zenda Farm Preserve on the edge of Clayton for a questing adventure. With an interactive booklet of clues and hints and activities, youngsters will explore the farm, learn a little bit about nature and history of Zenda Farm and also have a lot of fun.
It’s a great way to introduce young people to the wonders of nature and a fun way to spend a summer afternoon. Often it is the experiences of childhood in the outdoors that inspire a lifelong interest in the natural world. This beautiful region has a lot to for children to discover about the outdoors, from wildlife to wilderness to weather; the Thousand Islands are an exciting place.
Zenda Farm Preserve lies on the western edge of Clayton and was a working farm into the 1950s. Today, the fields are managed for grassland birds, so a local farmer waits until August to mow them, when young birds have left the nest. The Preserve includes the historic silver gray buildings and the grasslands on both sides of Rt. 12E. In 2009, TILT will open a trail for non-motorized recreation around the perimeter of the fields. Named for Zenda donors and benefactors, LoisJean & John MacFarlane, the trail will be available for year-round activity, including hiking, biking and skiing.
The KidsTrek will be held July 21
st at 1 pm at Zenda Farm. Parents and friends are encouraged to accompany children, and a snack will be provided. Please sign up in advance at 315-686-5345 or
events@tilandtrust.org. This event is part of the Thousand Islands Land Trust’s TILTreks & Talks series, encouraging living, learning and conserving in the Thousand Islands.
