The Thousand Islands Land Trust (TILT) is organizing an End of Season Cleanup of Potter’s Beach on Grindstone Island with the help of Rivergate Wheelers ATV Club and the Thousand Islands Young Leaders Organization (TIYLO). The Cleanup will take place Sunday, September 13; transportation to the island will leave from the TILT office at 9:45 a.m.
Potter’s Beach is a popular summer destination for boaters and visitors. It lies at the head of Grindstone and is one of the only naturally occurring sandy beaches among the Thousand Islands region. On a Saturday afternoon in the middle of summer, you’ll see boats anchored in the bay and people swimming, sunning and thoroughly enjoying the season. TILT purchased Potter’s Beach in 1989 in order to ensure that it remains as it always has been – a beautiful public beach.
The Rivergate Wheelers and TIYLO volunteer in numerous ways throughout the community, and the Potter’s Beach Cleanup is only the latest. The Rivergate Wheelers also help TILT maintain part of the Sissy Danforth Rivergate Trail, and TIYLO partnered with TILT to start the community garden at Zenda Farm.
Participants will be cleaning up any trash and debris along the beach, as well as in the adjacent woods. They will also tackle any storm damage that may have occurred. The Rivergate Wheelers and TILT will provide hamburgers & hotdogs for participants. The Cleanup of Potter’s Beach will take place Sunday, September 13, with transportation leaving the TILT office in Clayton at 9:45 a.m. For more information, contact TILT at 315-686-5345 or
