TILT Has Successful Biking Season

This season’s TILTreks & Talks Series was very successful. The three bike treks were especially well attended! Led by Elaine Tack and TILT’s (Thousand Islands Land Trust) Executive Director, Andrew Wood, the bike treks took place in July and August on Grindstone Island, Wellesley Island, and Wolfe Island. Each Trek had at least a dozen participants who biked about 20 miles. Breaks were taken to inform the bikers about each island’s unique community and wildlife. The bike rides appealed to riders of all ability levels, and bikers were given the opportunity to turn back or keep going when nearing the end of the bike tour.

Next year, TILT is already planning on hosting bike treks on Grindstone and Wellesley Islands. The Grindstone trek will again highlight the island’s unique history by stopping by the old schoolhouses and abandoned cheese factory. As for Wellesley Island, next year the trek will include biking on the historic trails of Boldt Farm, as well as the Cross Island Farm property, owned by Dani Baker and David Belding. These farms show Wellesley’s legacy of agriculture, as Boldt Farm was the largest on the island during the turn of the century, and Cross Island operates today as an organic farm. They will be sure to provide a noteworthy and picturesque bike trek!
