Our popular treks series are back, and the schedule is action-packed for 2014! The length and terrain of our trails vary - if you have any concerns or questions about whether a TILTrek is appropriate for you, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Please note: Our Outreach staff and volunteers often take photos of trek participants and event-goers, for future use in promoting TILT's mission and activities. If you are uncomfortable with your likeness, or that of your family, being used for promotional purposes, please do not hesitate to approach the TILT representative and/or photographer(s) present and make your preferences clear - we will always respect your privacy!

“Signs of Spring” Trek with the Thousand Islands Land Trust (TILT)
Macsherry Trail, Hammond: Saturday, April 12, 10am

The Thousand Islands Land Trust (TILT) and naturalist Peter O’Shea will lead TILTrekkers on a walk through the Macsherry Trail on the Crooked Creek Preserve in Hammond to look for signs of the changing seasons, from wildlife movement to emerging plant life. We’ll meet at the trailhead on Indian Point Road at 10am. Wear boots as the trail will likely be wet and a bit muddy. 2nd Annual “For the Trees” Arbor Day Community Event with the Thousand Islands Land Trust (TILT)

Join the Thousand Islands Land Trust (TILT) at Zenda Farm Preserve for our 2nd annual “For the Trees” Community Event in celebration of Arbor Day. We planted over 50 new trees last year along our LoisJean and John MacFarlane Trail, and we hope to plant many more, with the help of volunteers. We’ll also be offering the workshops, treks and exhibits that enhanced our celebration last year: There will be educational activities for kids, a guided tree trek in the Zenda woods and free seedling trees for families to plant at home. Local partners will also be on hand to run additional tree-related activities during the event: The Minna Anthony Common Nature Center, Indian River Lakes Conservancy, Cross Island Farms, Thousand Islands Arts Center and Northern Rivers Protogrove. And the Hawn Memorial Library in Clayton will show an "earth-friendly" movie at noon. The addition of new trees at Zenda Farm Preserve will benefit not only the local wildlife but the community as a whole. Seedlings will be available for volunteers to take home and lunch for volunteers will be provided. Nature photography has been one of the most requested treks, so the Thousand Islands Land Trust (TILT) is bringing shutterbugs multiple opportunities to “get out on the land” this summer! In May, join TILT and local photographers Vici and Steve Diehl as they share their enthusiasm for documenting the natural beauty of our region, and discuss the techniques and equipment used as they shoot. TILT’s Community Picnic at Zenda Farm Preserve
Zenda Farm Preserve, Clayton: Friday, June 13, 5:30-7:30pm

Bring your family and friends and enjoy the Thousand Islands Land Trust’s (TILT) annual celebration of open space and kickoff to summer. The Community Picnic features fascinating and fun exhibits from TILT’s conservation and community partners, which include environmental, cultural and community organizations from throughout the Thousand Islands region. Children’s games and activities (including a petting zoo and pony rides) will be available, and live music will keep your toes tapping. Classic picnic fare will include hotdogs, hamburgers, salads, and desserts and drinks will be served to wash it all down. This year’s fabulous “Great Outdoors” raffle features a Weber gas grill from Garlock’s Lumber and Hardware; an Adirondack Pack Basket from the Minna Anthony Common Nature Center, filled with an “outdoorsy” mix from 1000 Islands River Rat Cheese; and a handcrafted Canvasback decoy made by Cheyenne Denny of Denny Decoys. The Thousand Islands Land Trust (TILT) is calling all volunteers for a Stewardship Day at the historic Fort Haldimand on Carleton Island. Help preserve a very special place in the 1000 Islands! We need to clear out brush growing on the earthworks and ruins and get the site ready for the next archaeological excavation. At the suggestion of our fabulous summer interns, The Thousand Islands Land Trust (TILT) is launching a new series of “TeenTreks” aimed at those too mature for our KidsTreks, but who still want to “get out on the land” and have some fun! Paddle boarding is hugely popular in the 1000 Islands, and exploring TILT’s French Creek is the perfect way for young conservationists to learn more about the quiet waters of this important tributary to the St. Lawrence, and the countless species of birds, amphibians, fish, and plant life that inhabit it. Annual Loon Census with Adirondack Loon Conservation Program

The Adirondack Loon Conservation Program collects data from throughout northern New York in order to study trends in the population and implement management efforts if indicated. TILT's Annual Summer Gathering Fundraiser: "Go Wild for Conservation"

$100 per person. Limited charter bus service, leaving from Clayton and Alexandria Bay, is also available for an additional $20/person.

This year, TILT's annual fundraiser will be held at Allan Newell’s historic Cuthbert Farm, overlooking picturesque Chippewa Bay. Join us for a memorable evening on the River with friends, food, and live music and support land conservation and environmental education. Supporters will have the opportunity to learn about TILT’s latest conservation initiative aimed at protecting Chippewa Bay’s water quality and fish spawning and to provide water access to the public. The evening will also feature an exciting "Experience the Wild" live auction where guests can bid on unique items and experiences in the 1000 Islands and beyond:

Participants should dress appropriately, with hiking shoes, and pack a backpack with what you think you would need to survive! TIERS will put teens to the test against a series of possible outdoor scenarios, and teach the proper skills needed for survival of the fittest. TILTKids will remember the Diehls and their bugs from last year’s Camp - now we’ll be seeing them in their natural habitat! We will start with a short, easy hike followed by Liz leading a fun, challenging yoga class, surrounded by the beauty of nature! Fort Haldimand Tour with the Thousand Islands Land Trust (TILT)

Join the Thousand Islands Land Trust (TILT) and Professor Douglas J. Pippin, from the Department of Anthropology at SUNY Oswego, on a trek out to Carleton Island to explore historic Fort Haldimand. Professor Pippin has led previous TILTreks and KidsTreks at the fort (including archeological digs) as well as given a fascinating lecture about the life of a British soldier during the Revolutionary War. TILT will provide water and snacks, but please pack a lunch if needed. Wear comfortable shoes and meet in Cape Vincent at 9:30am for transportation to the island. *This TILTrek is reserved for TILT supporters only and has limited space! Volunteers are needed to help steward the Thousand Islands Land Trust’s (TILT) beloved Potter’s beach after another busy summer season on the river. Wear gloves, bring tools if you have them and spend an enjoyable morning on the beach, tending and caring for this preserve. TILT will provide water and Subway of Clayton will provide lunch. Meet at the TILT office at 9am for transportation to the island. The Thousand Islands Land Trust (TILT), and local photographer Sarah Ellen Smith are bringing you another opportunity to “get out on the land” with your camera! Participants must have a working knowledge of their cameras, and should dress comfortably. Sarah Ellen Smith has previously partnered with TILT on a year-long photo and video documentation of TILT’S 25-mile-long Sissy Danforth Rivergate Trail that can be found on the land trust’s YouTube station. We’ll meet at the trailhead on Indian Point Road at 1pm.
