Crooked Creek

Crooked Creek Preserve encompasses 1,250 acres of mature forest, wetlands and shoreline where Crooked Creek meets the St. Lawrence River at Chippewa Bay.  It provides a wealth of public recreation and scenic beauty, as well as hunting opportunities (by permit) in the fall.   Macsherry Trail is a key feature of the preserve.

Eagle Wing Islands

Eagle Wing Islands Preserve is comprised of nine tiny islands in the St. Lawrence River, lying between Grindstone Island and Clayton.   They are top notch tern nesting habitat and add stark beauty to this stretch of the river.

Grenadier Island Grassland

Grenadier Island Grassland Preserve of nearly 400 acres is an important part of the nesting bird and raptor habitats of this large island in Lake Ontario just before the point at which it empties into the St. Lawrence at Cape Vincent.

Grindstone Island Meadow Preserve and Songbird Forest

Grindstone Island Meadow Preserve and Songbird Forest was once known as the Delaney Farm now spans almost 230 acres of deep forest and meadows at the foot (down river, east end) of Grindstone Island.   Grindstone Island Nature Trail connects the preserve with Canoe and Picnic Point State Parks.

Douglas Howard-Smith Preserve

Douglas Howard-Smith Preserve, at the center of Grindstone Island, consists of130 acres of field and woods adjacent to hundreds of additional farm and forest areas off of Base Line Road and Lower Town Landing Road that are conserved through TILT ownership or conservation easement.

Otter Creek

Otter Creek Preserve just south of the Village of Alexandria Bay and State Route 12 is 25 acres of rock outcrops and forest well suited for passive recreation.

Potters Beach

Potters Beach Preserve is over 230 acres of forest land and what many would describe as the finest natural sand beach of the Thousand Islands.   At the head of Grindstone Island, the preserve is most often accessed by boat for swimming and enjoying the river.

Rusho Farm

Rusho Farm Preserve, 140 acres of field and forest in the center of Grindstone Island and across from Howard-Smith Preserve, is currently managed for grassland bird habitat.
