In Remembrance of Tom Walker

Just after the New Year, and surround by family, our dear friend and long-time TILT supporter, Tom Walker, passed while under the care of Hospice.  For those who didn’t know Tom, he and his wife Mabel were legendary in Watertown.  Tom served two terms as mayor and they were very active, influential and generous members of our region.

While Tom and Mabel spent much of their time in Watertown, they had a home on the River in Cape Vincent, and were strong supporters of TILT’s conservation work.  There truly wasn’t a part of the North Country community that went untouched by their hard work and unwavering generosity.

Tom and Mabel were among the first to support the development of the Otter Creek Preserve & Nature Trail in Alexandria Bay.  The popular Otter Creek Suspension Bridge was dedicated in honor Tom and Mabel.

Tom had an insatiable curiosity about the world, loved to share his knowledge and wisdom, and always took a personal interest in the people he interacted with.  There is no doubt that Tom’s legacy will live on through all of the positive change he helped make possible.
