The One Big Beautiful Bill & Your Giving
Beginning in 2026, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act makes donating to nonprofits like TILT more rewarding for everyone, especially small donors.
What’s New?
- For non-itemizers (most taxpayers):
- You can now deduct up to $1,000 (individual) or $2,000 (married filing jointly) in cash gifts to charities.
- For itemizers:
- Your giving only “counts” once it exceeds 0.5% of your income (AGI)
- If you’re in the highest income bracket, your tax savings are capped at 35% per donated dollar (instead of 37%)
Keep in mind:
- The universal deduction doesn’t apply for donor-advised funds.
- These changes start with the 2025 tax year.
Why it Matters:
This law makes it easier than ever for more people to give, and see a tangible tax benefit. Even smaller gifts will now go further in supporting local conservation, clean water, and a thriving Thousand Islands community.
