STEWARDSHIP & LAND MANAGEMENT

Habitat Management & Restoration

Stewardship involves maintenance and/or restoration of essential habitats, per a preserve’s individual management plan.

TILT manages some conserved lands to restore and enhance habitats for native flora and fauna, supporting biodiversity and protecting rare and endangered species.

Some properties are designated “Forever Wild,” free from human disturbance, serving as a baseline for comparison with our managed landscapes.

When TILT acquires a property, it is assessed for natural resources, species of concern, and historical uses. Each property receives a management plan, detailing whether it will remain forever wild or be managed for specific habitats like grasslands, forests, or wetlands. Some plans, like those for species management, are more complex. An example is our Partnership for Golden-winged Warblers, which uses advanced management techniques at Otter Creek Preserve to restore habitat for this endangered bird and other shrubland species.
