TILT Stewardship Crew Prepares New Schmeer Preserve Trail Ahead of Grand Opening

Conservation Lands Manager Garrett Konet spreads a native seed mix at the Edward & Marlene Schmeer Preserve, helping restore the landscape and encourage healthy native plant growth along the new trail ahead of the Preserve’s grand opening, Friday, June 5

The Thousand Islands Land Trust (TILT) stewardship crew has been hard at work over the past several weeks preparing the new Edward & Marlene Schmeer Preserve for its upcoming grand opening celebration on Friday, June 5 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Located at 787 Schmeer Road in Cape Vincent, the Preserve will soon welcome visitors to explore a brand-new trail through a beautiful landscape now protected for future grassland bird species, and generations to come. In advance of the opening, TILT’s stewardship staff have been focused on completing the final touches along the trail, including clearing pathways, improving trail conditions, and installing signage.

While excitement continues to build around the newest Signature Preserve, TILT reminds the community that the trail is not yet open to the public as work is still actively underway. Visitors are asked to please respect the temporary closure and wait until the official opening celebration on June 5 to explore the Preserve.
